Archive for Month: February 2024
President’s Message

Welcome to the White Mountain Open Trails Association’s (WMOTA) web site. WMOTA is a private non-profit social club for adults, a 501(c)7 organization. The Club is dedicated to promoting fun, safe and responsible OHV riding in the White Mountains of Arizona. Quads and side-by-sides are welcome. We are not a jeep club. All OHVs must be street legal. See https://azstateparks.com/ohv-laws-regulations for these requirements.
The Club normally meets for business on the second Thursday of the month from April through October. See the calendar on our website. Our monthly ride is then typically on the third Saturday following the meeting somewhere in the White Mountains. Many of our members will RV camp, usually a dry camp, at the monthly ride site and ride on Thursday and Friday in addition to the official Saturday ride. The Club may also offer unofficial rides like a fall foliage, a night or a lunch or dinner ride. It’s a great way to meet others interested in OHV riding.
From time to time members will organize unofficial rides out side our local riding area to Utah, Colorado or warmer locations during the cooler months here in the mountains. In short, if you’re interested in OHV riding the Club is a great way to meet and ride with others who also enjoy OHV riding.
WMOTA also is working closely with the US Forest Service to maintain and extend the Maverick Trail. Maverick is currently 50 miles in length and runs from Clay Springs to Pinetop-Lakeside. There are proposed extensions west bound to Heber and east bound to Springerville.

Time to renew!

Just a reminder that it is that time of year again to renew your memberships. You can download the .pdf renewal form (here) and mail the signed form, along with a check made payable to WMOTA, to the address listed on the form. Or, bring them to our next WMOTA meeting (see Calendar). Thank You!
APRIL RIDE INFO….

If you’ve been paying attention, you may have realized that WMOTA’s normal ride date for April this year would fall on the Saturday of Easter weekend. It has been decided not to ride on that holiday weekend. Instead the club will ride on Thursday, April 24th. We’re riding a Salt River Canyon ride.
Staging – Chuck Wood is the ride leader for this ride and Chuck will lead a convoy from the Cal Ranch Parking area to the staging area. Chuck’s convoy will leave the parking area at 07:30 AM. It’s about 55-miles to staging and Google says it will take about 1 hour. However, there is a bathroom at the bottom of the canyon, and many may wish to have a comfort stop there.
The Club has staged from this location before and if you don’t want to convey the google map link below is to the staging area. Please be there in plenty of time to unload and ready to ride NLT 09:00 AM.
As always, bring your gear, your lunch and plenty of fluids for hydration. We’ll be riding from staging to the bottom of the canyon and having lunch along the river.
